LINDSAY’S PICKS

  • June 10 – Jon Rauhouse & Robin Vining with North Brother Island & Dylan Pratt at The Newton
If you haven’t seen a show at the Newton, now is a great opportunity. A great room with wonderful sound, this line-up features some of the valley’s best talent.
  • June 17 – Summer Cannibals at Stinkweeds (in-store)
Summer Cannibals are the latest signing to our longtime favorite label Kill Rock Stars. I’m loving their new album Full Of It that just came out. Think Sleater-Kinney meets The Thermals. Come see em live and for free at STINKWEEDS at 3pm on June 17th. Instores are always free and all ages. Be sure to stop in, we’ll have a buncha free stuff to give away too, including free tickets to their show that night at the Valley Bar!
  • June 18 – We Were Promised Jetpacks opening for Tokyo Police Club at Crescent Ballroom
Love any chance to see these moody, post punk, indie Scottish rocker dudes in concert. Did you know they just reissued “These Four Walls” on vinyl?!?! Easily one of the best debuts ever.

DARIO’S PICKS

  • June 10 – Jon Rauhouse & Robin Vining with North Brother Island & Dylan Pratt at The Newton
Full Disclosure: My band is playing this event. BUT, I’m not going to talk about that. I’m going to talk about how Robin Vining has been one of my favorite local musicians for over 10 years and how Jon Rauhouse is one of our local treasures AND the pedal steel/banjo/guitarist for Neko Case! I’ve been paying attention to Dylan Pratt’s music for close to 5 years now, and I can confidently say that with a little bit of luck and a little more exposure, there could easily be some big things in his future. The Newton is the perfect setting for this intimate performance. If you have yet to pay this space a visit, this is the perfect time.
  • July 1 – Kevin Morby at Valley Bar
Kevin Morby’s newest album “Singing Saw” has been a regular fixture on my record player since it’s release in April. I’m a sucker for dense arrangements of strings, backup singers and skillfully crafted, interweaving parts. This album has that them spades. It’s reminiscent of Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan, but has a darkness and sharpness that’s all it’s own. Regardless if he’s touring with a band or on his own, I just want to hear these songs live and bring back some new perspective to the album to dive a little deeper.

JEFF’S PICKS

  • June 6 – The Good Life with Speedy Ortiz at Crescent Ballroom
Really looking forward to finally seeing Speedy Ortiz live!
  • June 18 – Jaill with Twin Ponies at The Rebel Lounge
Just heard Jaill’s tunes and will be cool to see them when they pass through town. Plus, how many times do I have to recommend Twin Ponies shows on this blog before you go see them??
  • June 20 – Death Bells with Draa & Sun Hex at The Rebel Lounge
Amazing Monday night lineup at The Rebel Lounge!
  • June 25 – Spoiled EP Release with Lenguas Largas, Sleep Money & more at Valley Bar
Stacked bill for this local release show! The EP sounds great and there’s a couple bands here I’ve been meaning to see for a while.
