I think it’s pretty clear by now that you just can’t stop record stores! In the past year, we have seen more new faces than ever before. All sorts and ages are feeling the love for the real experience that comes with shopping for and listening to vinyl records. And part of that experience is everyone’s favorite holiday, RECORD STORE DAY!

This will be the 10th year that we’ve participated in this awesome event and there is no sign of things slowing down. Record Store Day is an official holiday, as far as we’re concerned. So, we want to get you up to speed and keep you updated on any and all information we have or will receive, leading up to the big day. Check back with us periodically, as we will be updating this blog post and our social media as the developments come in.

Here’s What You Need To Know, So Far

We’re doing things a little different, this year. Since we threw a huge party for our 30th Anniversary on April 1st, we’ll be scaling down the “party” aspect of Record Store Day. This doesn’t mean we don’t have something really awesome planned. It’s just a little different. We’ll get to that.
First, here’s some logistical information you might want to know.

*Hours and Waiting In Line: We’ll be opening at 9am. In the past, we’ll usually have a line of 100 or more people, by the time we open. The line will not be covered and there is no seating, so if you plan on showing up early, come prepared with comfy shoes, folding chairs and sunblock. We can only allow a certain amount of people in the store at a time,  but we’ve been doing this for 9 years now and we have this machine well oiled and down to a science. We will do our absolute best to get people in and out with smiles on their faces.

Parking: I wouldn’t count on finding any parking in our lot, this day. Also, we want to leave as much room for our neighbors, as possible. We recommend parking across the street at the Light Rail Park-n-Ride, or in the Uptown Plaza parking lot, by AJs. Or, hop on the train, walk, bike or get a ride! Whatever you do, please respect our neighbors when picking your parking spot. Don’t block anyone in. Don’t park if there’s a no parking sign and just overall, be a good person. Not that we’re worried about that.

*Record Store Day Exclusive titles: RSD titles will be separated from our regular stock and alphabetized in order for you to find what you’re looking for, with ease. We will have staff on hand to help you find any specific titles. RSD purchases are limited to one of each title, per person. We are a small store but we bring in a huge haul for Record Store Day, so we encourage you to be helpful and friendly with your neighbors. Our favorite part about Record Store Day is just how awesome and pleasant everyone is.

*Please, No Trade Ins on Record Store Day: We’re always happy to see people come in with some awesome titles to sell to the shop and believe me, after Record Store Day, we will definitely need the extra titles! But, please give us the day to focus on the holiday. Thanks!

Now, about the party…

It has been a tradition for Stinkweeds to throw a big party on Record Store Day, for as long as we’ve been participating. But, we’re doing things a little differently, this year. We celebrated our 30th year in business with a big bash on April 1st. We considered saving it till Record Store Day, but we really wanted to focus on the party and all the amazing customers we’ve had, throughout the years. So, we will be scaling things down a bit, for this year’s RSD.

But, we still gotta do SOMETHING for

Record Store Day!

This year, we’ll be splitting this up into two events.
-Starting at 9am, we’ll be at the shop, all day, doing our darndest to make sure you get the RSD exclusive you’re looking for. We’ll have DJ Bruce spinning tunes, early in the day. We’ll have some drinks and possibly snacks if you just want to hang around. But, the real party happens after we close up shop, for the night.
-Then, at 8pm, we’re heading over to our neighbors at The Newton (Changing Hands Bookstore/First Draft Book Bar) for a kick ass Record Store Day after party, sponsored by Stinkweeds, Dogfish Head Brewery and First Draft Book Bar!
We’re still working out the details, but we have confirmed that this party will feature the exclusive, official beer of Record Store Day, made by the official Brewery of RSD, Dogfish Head Brewery, as well as some awesome giveaways from Dogfish!
We’ll keep the party bumping with a DJ sets from Brandon McMahon. He’s a longtime customer and has that “Record Store” kind of taste in music. We’ll have tons of raffles for Stinkweeds Gift Cards, concert tickets, Stinkweeds SWAG and who knows what else we’ll be able to dig up!

Check back with us for more details, as the day gets closer!

Thanks for all your support!
