Recently, I’ve discussed vinyl organization with a few customers. This is often brought on by someone repeatedly checking their phone, as they shop through the bins. You see, better people than myself will take the time and effort to catalog their collection, in order to keep track of what they have and don’t have. I’m […]

Here is the second installment of “Alphabetized Into Obscurity – A Journey Into the Unknown.” It’s no challenge for us to find some awesome unknowns, tucked throughout the store. So once more, we’ve picked five records in the hopes of finding a hidden treasure and perhaps inspire you to journey into the unknown corners of your local record […]

Psychedelic pop / rock giants Tame Impala just released their newest album Currents on Interscope Records. Before our copies of the album flew off the shelves on Friday, I sat down to study the long-awaited record I’ve been anticipating after seemingly countless listens through their previous releases. Early fans came for the riffs that feel timeless, but are refreshing at the same time, and stuck around for lush, constantly […]

A common misconception about record store clerks is that we know everything about everything. When, in fact, we know a lot about what we love and a little bit about a bunch of other stuff. Considering how much music has been recorded and released, you would be hard pressed to find someone who does know about everything, […]

We’ve all played this game. You pick a thing or things that you couldn’t live without if you were stranded on a desert island. You think through a few favorites, maybe considering how your answer may sound to the other person. Then, with the confidence of someone who knows they will probably never be stranded […]

We’re sponsoring an event on July 3rd at the newly opened Changing Hands Bookstore, located in the Newton complex. This is the first live music performance of its kind in this space, and it may not be the last, if all goes well. Our hope is to continue a partnership with Changing Hands and First […]

Houndstooth’s 2013 release, Ride Out the Dark, was a humble introduction to the Portland, Oregon band. While they weren’t fighting for your attention, they were at least interesting enough to warrant more than a few listens. And, like anything so elegantly simple, you continue to find new things to appreciate after spending some real time with […]

Last month, Arizona hosted a slew of great psychedelic rock (a blanket term, I know…) bands on their way to and from Austin Psych Fest. The festival had an impressive lineup this year (including The Flaming Lips, Tame Impala and The Jesus And Mary Chain), but I ended up completely entertained by some of the smaller names on the lineup when they passed through the Valley. The following are the best bands I saw on their way home from Austin Psych Fest:  Continue reading

We try to mix up what we listen to in the store, but some albums just can’t seem to find their way out of our CD player. Here are some of our current favorites.
