WILCO – Hot Sun Cool Shroud CD/LP (Sony)
Following Wilco’s acclaimed 2023 album Cousin, Wilco revisited unfinished material from these sessions to craft Hot Sun Cool Shroud. Collaborating again with engineering mixer Tom Schick, the band crafted six tracks that expand on the sound of Cousin. According to Jeff Tweedy, they have “a summertime-after-dark kind of feeling. It starts off pretty hot, like heat during the day, has some instrumentals on it that are a little agitated and uncomfortable, and ends with a cooling breeze.”
ORBITAL – A Beginners Guide (Best Of) LP (London)
All Orbital’s classic tracks across all albums with 6 additional tracks.
BJORK – Oral 12″ (One Little Independent)
At some point between 1997’s Homogenic and 2001’s Vespertine, Björk wrote and recorded “Oral,” a sweeping pop song about the fantastical possibilities of meeting someone new. Newly rescued, this updated version features co-production fromSega Bodega and vocals from Rosalía. Pairing misty-eyed strings with syncopated rhythms inspired by ’90s dancehall, the song has an air of youthful exuberance.
REGINA SPEKTOR – Songs CD/LP (Warner)
First time ever widely released, on LP and online. In 2002, Regina Spektor was in the midst of a creative explosion. She found herself writing so many songs that she was unable to keep track of them. Her friend Joe Mendelson noticed she was forgetting some entirely, and offered to archive everything she had written that year. After Regina recorded dozens of songs, one take each, they decided to pick twelve and make them into an album. And so, Songs was born.
