TORI AMOS – Little Earthquakes [Reissue/1992] 2xLP (Atlantic)
Tori Amos became the voice of a generation of young girls when she delivered her first solo record in 1992. Each of the tracks on Little Earthquakes painted an evocative picture, and the album delivered five singles: “Crucify”, “Silent All These Years”, “Winter”, “China”, “Me And A Gun”. The album has already received the deluxe treatment in 2006, and this double-LP is the first time the tracks have been remastered for this format.

SEA AND CAKE – Moonlight Butterfly LP reissue (Thrill Jockey)
Limited reissue on opaque tan vinyl. The Moonlight Butterfly has the core elements of the utterly unique Sea and Cake sound, while introducing a more experimental approach to the song’s textures and structures. The songs are more extended in form and cinematic in feel. The band’s singular guitar-based pop sound is filtered through pattern based ideas that slowly morph the linear into the modal. The album is filled with extended instrumental passages that bear the markers of Prekop’s recent solo explorations of analog synthesizers. The song ‘Inn Keeping’, for example, focuses on the synthesizer as the main armature of the song, a constant to play with and against.

JOHN FRUSCIANTE – Inside Of Emptiness LP (Record Collection)

SCOLOHOFO – Oh! LP reissue (Blue Note)

Four new tracks from Sam Shepherd aka Floating Points. “Grammar”, “Vocoder” and “Problems” were met with widespread praise including a Best New Track from Pitchfork and a glowing review from Resident Advisor describing Shepherd as “one of electronic music’s undisputed MVPs”. “Someone Close” changes track completely, something Shepherd has done effortlessly across his career, capping off a run of releases that have showcased the many strings to his bow yet still holds together seamlessly.
SUN RA – Prophet LP (Modern Harmonic)
What happens when a Prophet meets a Prophet? The answer lies within these grooves. Amongst the hundreds of recordings issued by Sun Ra and his Arkestra, under their various guises, the majority were recorded in concert or in makeshift studios such as their early 1960s set-up at NYC’s Choreographer’s Workshop. Beyond those, roughly 22 albums were recorded at Variety Recording Studio in New York’s Times Square. However, on August 25, 1986, Sun Ra and cohorts entered Mission Control, a state-of-the-art 24-track studio north of Boston, which was teeming with electronic keyboards and otherworldly sound generators, including Sequential Circuits legendary Prophet-5 and Prophet-10. Created using microprocessors, a then-new technological advance, under the auspices of engineer Dave Smith in 1978, the Prophet-5 revolutionized electronic music as the first polyphonic and, most importantly, programmable synthesizer. Ra was intrigued by the Prophet (surely by the instrument as well as by the name).
