FIRST AID KIT – Palomino CD/LP (Columbia)
Columbia Records release the fifth studio album by the Swedish folk sibling duo. Released four years after their previous album Ruins, Palomino is an 11 song album and features the singles ‘Angel’ and ‘Out of My Head’. Discussing their new album in a statement, the duo said: “this is the first record we’ve recorded in Sweden since we made our debut album The Big Black and The Blue 12 years ago. We worked with Swedish producer Daniel Bengtson at his lovely studio Studio Rymden in Stockholm. It was such a fun experience. We really let the recording take time, we didn’t want to rush it. It’s probably our most pop sounding record yet.”
SPOON – Lucifer On The Moon LP (Matador)
Lucifer on the Moon is the anti-gravity companion to Spoon’s Lucifer on the Sofa. A top-to-bottom rework of the Austin band’s tenth album, it was created by ON-U Sound founder and UK dub icon, Adrian Sherwood. Moon first took shape as a selection of heady remixes for the singles from Lucifer on the Sofa. Frontman Britt Daniel offered Sherwood two suggestions: “Avoid things that would not be possible on tape” and “Add whatever you want to add — and the less modern the better.” The collaboration shouldn’t come as a surprise: dub-inspired production is wound through Spoon’s classic tracks, from “Finer Feelings” to “Inside Out.” Sherwood is a proven collaborator whose resume includes partnerships with seminal artists like The Fall, Jah Wobble, and Mark Stewart. The initial results pleased both parties and Sherwood was invited to work on additional songs. And then a few more. “I got into the melody and the thoughts it evoked in me,” the producer explains. “It just evolved and we eventually found ourselves with a whole album.”
DANIEL AVERY – Ultra Truth CD/LP (Mute)
Ultra Truth is Avery’s most ambitious work to date, featuring collaborations with Kelly Lee Owens, HAAi, Jonnine, Sherelle, AK Paul, and James Massiah. Through acclaimed albums like Song For Alpha and Love + Light, he has cemented a worldwide reputation as one of the most original artists in contemporary electronic music. The new album follows 2021’s surprise release Together In Static, a companion record to his 2x sold out socially distant live shows at Hackney Church. The CD and double clear vinyl editions of Ultra Truth each include their own hidden track at the end of the album, exclusively available to those formats.

BOTCH – We Are The Romans LP [Reissue/1999] (Sargent House)
Legendary Tacoma, Washington mathcore/hardcore/metal band Botch’s second and final full-length album We Are the Romans was originally released in 1999 to critical acclaim, and is now reissued and remastered with a new song, their first in 20 years, called “One Twenty Two.” Bassist Brian Cook, guitarist David Knudson, drummer Tim Latona, and vocalist Dave Verellen formed Botch in 1993, becoming one of the most ground-breaking and influential bands during a pivotal shift in heavy music. The members would go on to play in These Arms Are Snakes, Minus the Bear, and Russian Circles, among others, with acclaim for the band coming mostly post-breakup. We Are the Romans went on to become one of the most influential albums ever for the genre garnering posthumous acclaim across the board.

WILLIAM FITZSIMMONS – Covers Vol 1 LP (Nettwerk)
The appeal of William Fitzsimmons’ sound is indicative of his unique upbringing and consequent life experience. He puts that skill on display throughout this collection of cover songs. Featuring songs by Joy Division, Sufjan Stevens, R.E.M, Taylor Swift, Phoebe Bridgers, Iron & Wine, & more!

BOBBY HUTCHERSON – Stick Up LP (Blue Note Tone Poet Series)
Vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson had a profound influence over the sound of Blue Note Records in the 1960s, with his distinctive vibes elevating a wide range of all-time classics from Grant Green Idle Moments to Eric Dolphy Out To Lunch. His fifth Blue Note session as a leader, 1966’s album Stick-Up! found Hutcherson in the company of a new band line-up with Joe Henderson on tenor saxophone, McCoy Tyner on piano, Herbie Lewis on bass, and Billy Higgins on drums. The versatile quintet covers a vast expanse of post-bop territory on this excellent six-song set which opens with a spirited romp through Ornette Coleman’s “Una Muy Bonita.” Five Hutcherson originals follow, including the hard driving “8/4 Beat,” the dreamy ballad “Summer Nights,” and the expansive “Verse.”
JUNIOR BOYS – Waiting Game LP (City Slang)
Six years since their last album, 2016’s Big Black Coat, Waiting Game finds producers Jeremy Greenspan and Matt Didemus in a tender and contemplative mood; a switch-up from their punchy, R&B-infused dance melodics. In this uncertain period, drawing from Didemus’s co-writing and musicianship, Greenspan wrote and recorded Waiting Game. The album’s additional musicians are Canadians, too; Caribou collaborator Colin Fisher performs saxophone throughout and Bonjay frontwoman Alanna Stuart sings alongside Greenspan on the song “Yes 2”.
STEVE LACY – Gemini Rights LP (RCA)
Gemini Rights is the second studio album by musician Steve Lacy. It follows Lacy’s debut album Apollo XXI (2019), and was preceded by the singles “Mercury”, “Bad Habit” and “Sunshine”. The album includes guest appearances from Fousheé, and Lacy’s The Internet bandmate, keyboardist Matt Martians. Incorporating a variety of genres, the album has been described as an amalgamation of indie rock and alternative R&B, with elements of funk, jazz, and psychedelia.

LONE BELLOW – Love Songs For Losers CD/LP (Dualtone)
Throughout their lifespan as a band, The Lone Bellow have cast an indelible spell with their finespun songs of hard truth and unexpected beauty, frequently delivered in hypnotic three-part harmony. In a departure from their past work with elite producers like Aaron Dessner of The National and eight-time Grammy-winner Dave Cobb, the Nashville-based trio struck out on their own for their new album Love Songs for Losers, dreaming up a singular sound encompassing everything from arena-ready rock anthems to the gorgeously sprawling Americana tunes the band refers to as “little redneck symphonies.” Recorded at the possibly haunted former home of the legendary Roy Orbison, the result is an intimate meditation on the pain and joy and ineffable wonder of being human, at turns heartbreaking, irreverent, and sublimely transcendent.

Vinyl LP pressing. A revelatory discovery in the Tinariwen archives, Kel Tinariwen is an early cassette tape recorded in the early 90s that never received a wider release, and sheds new light on the band’s already rich history. Not having yet developed the fuller band sound that they became internationally established with, Kel Tinariwen features their trademark hypnotic guitar lines and call-and-response vocals weaving in between raw drum machine rhythms and keyboard melodies that almost evoke an Arabic take on 80s synth-pop.
MOUNT KIMBIE – MK 3.5: Die Cut | City Planning LP (Warp)
The musical duo Mount Kimbie present a the double album, MK 3.5: Die Cut | City Planning, highlighting the individual work and production styles of Dom Maker and Kai Campos. Die Cuts showcases Dom’s work as a producer; skipping between hip-hop, RnB, and electronic pop, the album combines high class songcraft with a delicate leftfield touch, and featuring a cast of vocalists. Kai’s City Planning twists avant-garde signifiers into a deft and refined statement with sleek beats and stuttering arpeggios layered with scuzz and personality, making for an album that’s warm and inviting even at its most confrontational. MK 3.5: Die Cut | City Planning shows how Dom and Kai have grown over the past decade, and demonstrates the two sides of Mount Kimbie’s aesthetic coin.
IRIS DEMENT – Infamous Angel LP [Reissue/1992] (Yep Roc)
Iris DeMent released Infamous Angel in 1992. Nearly 30 years later, the album remains among the most singular and fully realized singer-songwriter debuts since the invention of that category in the early ’70s. The abiding strengths of the album are especially impressive ‘ even a bit startling ‘ because 1992 is not a moment usually associated with her intimate brand of acoustic country music. In country history, the year 1992 is most immediately affiliated with Garth Brooks, whose album, The Chase, topped both the country and pop album charts that year, and with Billy Ray Cyrus’ ‘Achy Breaky Heart,’ which fueled a line dance craze. Squeezed into a playlist alongside such hits, DeMent’s doleful, hushed ‘Our Town’ would’ve sounded as if it were being broadcast from another planet. ‘People call me country,’ she told journalist Ben Thompson while on tour in Britain a couple years later. ‘But country doesn’t call me country.’
TOM SKINNER – Voices Of Bishara CD/LP (Nonesuch)
2022 release from drummer, composer, and producer Tom Skinner (The Smile, Sons of Kemet). The first recording under Skinner’s own name is a reference to an album he listened to repeatedly during the COVID-19 lockdown: cellist Abdul Wadud’s 1978 solo album By Myself, which was privately pressed on Wadud’s label, Bishara. The common Arabic name has the intention or meaning of “good news” or “the bringer of good news.” The album features Shabaka (Sons of Kemet) and Nubiya Garcia.
SETH AVETT – Sings Greg Brown CD/LP (Ramseur)
New solo album from Seth Avett of the Avett Brothers (his first in 5 years), featuring songs written by lauded folk singer Greg Brown, whose songs have also been performed and recorded by Joan Baez, Willie Nelson, Lucinda Williams, Carlos Santana, Ani DiFranco, Gillian Welch, Mary Chapin Carpenter, and more.
VINCE STAPLES – Ramona Park Broke My Heart LP (Motown)
Vinyl LP pressing. Esteemed hip-hop artist Vince Staples follows up his intimate self-titled album with Ramona Park Broke My Heart. “There’s a direct correlation,” Staples says of the two records. “They were kind of created at the same time. I was in a similar state of mind. This album will make even more sense if you heard the previous one, but this one has more answers.” Long Beach’s Ramona Park neighborhood is dear to Vince’s heart. “It’s symbolic of home,” he says of why he dedicated the album to it.
NINA NASTASIA – Riderless Horse LP (Temporary Residence)
The first new album in over a decade from world-renowned singer-songwriter, Nina Nastasia. Produced by Steve Albini. “Riderless Horse is my first solo record, and it’s the first record my former partner, Kennan Gudjonsson, didn’t produce. I haven’t made an album since 2010. I decided to stop pursuing music several years after my sixth record, Outlaster, because of unhappiness, overwhelming chaos, mental illness, and my tragically dysfunctional relationship with Kennan. Creating music had always been a positive outlet during difficult times, but eventually it became a source of absolute misery. Riderless Horse documents the grief, but it also marks moments of empowerment and a real happiness in discovering my own capability. Steve Albini produced this record with me, and Greg Norman assisted. It was exactly the right environment to work on this record. We all had meals together, cried, laughed, and told stories. It was perfect. It made me realize how much I love writing, playing and recording music. Terrible things happen. These were some terrible things. So, what to do – learn something valuable, connect with people, move the fuck out of that apartment, remember the humor, find the humour, tell the truth, and make a record. I made a record.

TURNOVER – Myself In The Way LP (Run For Cover)
Myself in the Way is the band’s fifth full-length album, and it follows their first pause in consistent touring in almost 10 years. JUKEBOX THE GHOST – Cheers LP (BMG)
2022 release from the indie pop trio. Cheers is the long-awaited follow-up to their 2018 album Off to the Races.
CALEB LANDRY JONES – Gadzooks Vol 2 LP (Sacred Bones)
Don’t let the prestigious acting career fool you, Caleb Landry Jones is a bonafide musical maverick. And on Gadzooks Vol. 2, he places himself in a lineage of outsider artists, many with only a thin thread tethering them to this reality, who are capable of reaching into the cosmic realms of imagination and bringing back a musical masterpiece. One of Jones’s greatest musical gifts is his ability to cover a vast energetic and sonic landscape, with a wide array of instrumentation and vocal stylings over a wholly unique song structure, in a way that feels cohesive and euphoric. And while all his records have an ecstatic quality Gadzooks Vol 2. is perhaps his most soothing and sublime collection to date. Each song has at least a dozen ear worming hooks, all so satisfying you feel a deep longing as they fade until you realize they are being woven into yet another groove-laden, toe-tapping peak.
