WEYES BLOOD – And In The Darkness, Hearts Aglow CD/LP/CASS (loser/ltd colored version)
Technological agitation. Narcissism fatigue. A galaxy of isolation. These are the new norms keeping Weyes Blood (aka Natalie Mering) up at night and the themes at the heart of her release, And in the Darkness, Hearts Aglow. The celestial-influenced folk album is her follow-up to the acclaimed Titanic Rising. (Pitchfork, NPR, and The Guardian admiringly named it one of 2019’s best.) While Titanic Rising was an observation of doom to come, And in the Darkness, Hearts Aglow is about being in the thick of it: a search for an escape hatch to liberate us from algorithms and ideological chaos. “We’re in a fully functional shit show,” Mering says. “My heart is a glow stick that’s been cracked, lighting up my chest in an explosion of earnestness.”

SOHN – Trust (4AD)
Four years after his last original music, English singer, songwriter and producer SOHN will return with his new record Trust. Off the back of an incredible history at DSPs with over 100 million streams, the album finds him further exploring a sound that first found success in the electronic and noir-pop spaces, and now explores deeper roots in folk structures and an aching, emotive balladry. Whilst still drawing on the influences that garnered such a rabid international audience, the album is an unequivocal statement of SOHN as an ambitious auteur beyond simple genre tags.

SPECIAL INTEREST – Endure CD/LP (Rough Trade)
Brought together by New Orleans’ DIY scene, Special Interest is, on every level, uncompromising: in their adventurous sound, their high-energy live performances, and their convictions. Dance music and punk culture have flirted in the warehouse before, but the desire of Special Interest is to dismantle genre. 2018’s Spiraling and 2020’s widely acclaimed The Passion Of articulated the group’s style, driven by dance grooves and electronic textures as much as hardcore riffs, but Special Interest expands the vision with Endure, their latest album and first for Rough Trade.

BILLY STRINGS – Me/and/Dad CD/LP (Rounder)
“As long as I can remember, I wanted to make a record with my dad,” Billy Strings says. The dream to make a proper studio album is finally realized. Me/and/Dad is a collection of 14 classics that Billy and his dad, Terry Barber, know like the back of their hands. It’s the music that made Billy the musician and human he is today. The album represents a lifelong goal finally achieved and a way for the GRAMMY-winning musician to honor the man who taught him how to play guitar. Available on 180-gram LP and different indie exclusive color options.

NEIL YOUNG – World Record CD/LP (Reprise)
World Record is the second album of new studio recordings within the past 12 months from Neil Young and Crazy Horse. World Record is produced by Rick Rubin and Neil Young, and Neil is accompanied by his longtime band, Crazy Horse (Billy Talbot, Ralph Molina, Nils Lofgren). The album features 10 new Neil Young compositions (plus a short reprise of one song) and was mixed to analog tape at Rubin’s Shangri-la studios using a selection of vintage instruments and equipment. To optimize the audio quality, the vinyl format will be released as a 3-sided double album with an etching on side 4. World Record will also be released on CD (2 CDs mirroring the track sequence of the double LP). Ten songs, nine written during the last year about the events and condition of our world.

BADBADNOTGOOD – IV (Pink reissue) LP (RHR)
Reissue on pink vinyl. BadBadNotGood is the talented young quartet of Matthew Tavares on keys, Chester Hansen on bass, Alex Sowinski on drums and Leland Whitty on saxophone. They formed and became inseparable friends at Humber College’s Music Performance program in 2011 and have been on a critically acclaimed, rule bending musical journey ever since. BadBadNotGood took the music world by storm with their 2014 LP, III, a brash yet refined record of angular jazz improvisations, lush ballads, kraut rock, and futuristic hip-hop tinged rhythms which led to a couple years of touring the world and collaborating with some of the best and brightest artists around the globe. The boys are back with the new album IV, their most impressive and highly anticipated project yet. IV continues their forward thinking progression, sounding something like a jam session in space between Can, John Coltrane, Herbie Hancock’s Headhunters, Weather Report, Arthur Russell and MF Doom. With tracks like ‘Time Moves Slow’ featuring haunting vocals from Sam Herring of Future Islands, the syncopated groove of ‘Lavender,’ a collaboration with Montreal based producer Kaytranada, the rumbling fusion build of ‘Confessions Pt. II’ featuring Colin Stetson on the bass sax, ‘Love’ which is highlighted with smokey left field raps from Mick Jenkins and the epic chords of ‘Speaking Gently,’ IV is an exploration in post-genre virtuosity.

Words and phrases I feel could be digested into King Gizzard-world.” Mackenzie selected 7 titles that he felt “had a vibe,” and attached a BPM value to each one. This 2 LP set is pressed on 180-gram recycled black wax housed in an outer card jacket in place of shrink wrap.

DANIEL LANOIS – Player, Piano LP (Modern Recordings)
Now available on LP!  Press play on Lanois’ captivating new instrumental collection, Player, Piano, and you’ll be transported, too. Each song here is a portal, an invitation to lose yourself in the moment and disappear into a world of imagination and memory. Lanois recorded the entire collection himself, capturing a series of gentle, exotic piano performances at his studio in Toronto with the help of co-producer Dangerous Wayne Lorenz, and the results are both intimate and expansive all at once. Melodies unfold slowly with patience and grace; ethereal arrangements drift around them like fog rolling through the mountains. PHIFE DAWG – Forever LP (Trini Gladiator)
The Estate for the legendary MC and A Tribe Called Quest founding member Phife Dawg is excited to unveil the vinyl for his posthumous album Forever. He carefully assembled a collection of songs earmarked by his signature verbal fireworks, hilarious adlibs, incisive social commentary, and unexpectedly introspective confessions. With the blessing of his family and his most trusted collaborator and business partner, Dion Liverpool (Executive Producer) the Forever album was released with features Rapsody, Renee Neufville, Busta Rhymes, Redman, V. Rich, Q Tip, Maseo, Lyric Jones, Dwele, Illa J, Little Brother, Pos, Darien Brockington, Cheryl Boyce Taylor (His Mother), and Angela Winbush.

POLE – Tempus CD/LP (Mute)
Mute is excited to announce the release of Pole’s 2022 album Tempus. Pole is Düsseldorf-native musician, producer and mastering engineer Stefan Betke, and is known for his unique musical language oscillating between melody and avant-garde in electronic music, with audible influences from Dub and Jazz music. While the subject of his critically acclaimed 2020 Fading focused on coping with dementia and the loss of memory over time, Tempus focuses on the connection between the past, the present and the future. Translating to tense in English, Tempus investigates whether music that was created in the past, can still be audible and influential for the present, and how much can this music shine into the future.

ADRIAN QUESADA – Jaguar Sound LP (ATO)
Jaguar Sound is the 2nd solo album of 2022 from Adrian Quesada. With it, the Black Pumas co-founder showcases another impressive side of his artistry with 12 head-nodding, cinematic instrumentals landing somewhere between Khruangbin, Lee Hazlewood and The Alchemist. Recorded at Quesada’s own Electric Deluxe Studio in 2020, Jaguar Sound proves that he is one of the most exciting stylists in modern independent music.

ROYKSOPP – Profound Mysteries CD/LP (Dog Triumph)
7 years after their last studio album, The Inevitable End, and their farewell to the traditional album format, Röyksopp unveils Profound Mysteries, an expanded creative universe and a prodigious conceptual project. In 2022, they embark on a new chapter in their career and musical oeuvre, exploring technology and nature in a similar fashion as in their youthful days in Tromsø, but with added profundity. “As human beings, what we don’t know vastly overshadows what we do know. As teenagers, we would discuss our own fascination and preoccupation with the infinite and the impossible – the most profound mysteries of life.” After stepping on a lot of puffball mushrooms out in the forest and emerging from an organic cloud of dust, they deliver their most extensive work to date and reveal once more why only Röyksopp is Röyksopp.

SUPERGRASS – I Should Coco LP (Echo Label)
I Should Coco is the debut studio album by Supergrass, released through Parlophone in May 1995 “We are young / we are free / Keep our teeth / nice and clean” is hardly an incendiary motto, but the lyrics to Alright rather summed up Supergrass’ influential Britpop statement of intent, I Should Coco. It’s about being young, about riding on buses, about smoking cigarettes and about getting a little bit tipsy. Harmless fun, even if it does involve being caught with a little bit of hash, as frontman Gaz Coombes memorably recounts on Caught By The Fuzz.
