Stinkweeds Record Store Day 2016!
Here’s What You Need To Know
We’ll be closing at 6pm on Friday to prepare for the big day.
*Hours and Waiting In Line: We’ll be opening at 9am. In the past, we’ll usually have a line of 100 or more people, by the time we open. The line will not be covered and there is no seating, so if you plan on showing up early, come prepared with comfy shoes, folding chairs and sunblock. We will only allow a certain amount of people in the store at a time. But, we’ve been doing this for 9 years now and we have this machine well oiled and down to a science. So, we will do our absolute best to get people in and out with smiles on their faces. We will have free coffee for all of you early risers at 8am, provided by First Draft Book Bar (Changing Hands).
*Parking: Our parking lot will be blocked off and inaccessible. You can park across the street at the Light Rail park-n-ride or in the Uptown Plaza parking lot or take the train, walk, bike or get a ride. Please respect our neighbors when deciding where to park!
*Record Store Day Exclusive titles: RSD titles will be separated from our regular stock and alphabetized in order for you to find what you’re looking for, with ease. We will have staff on hand to help you find any specific titles. RSD titles are limited to one of each title, per person. We are a small store but we bring in a huge haul for Record Store Day, so we encourage you to be helpful and friendly with your neighbors. Our favorite part about Record Store Day is just how awesome and pleasant everyone is.
*Please, No Trade Ins on Record Store Day: We’re always happy to see people come in with some awesome titles to sell to the shop and believe me, after Record Store Day, we will definitely need the extra titles! But, if it could wait till after Record Store Day, that would be greatly appreciated. We will be sure to give you a fair price and take as much as we can.
*Food and Music: The big party will be starting at 11am with Short Leash Hot Dogs serving up a delicious lunch and live music from DJs and Bands till 4pm (See below for the band and DJ lineup). It’s been a hot one, in the past years. But, the curse has been lifted and we are looking at temperatures in the very low 80s, for this Saturday! Even so, we will have some giant fans and free cold drinks to make it even a little more pleasant.
Exclusive Releases!
We’ve gotten most of our orders in, so feel free to give us a call at 602-248-9461 if you’re looking to get your hands on anything specific. We can’t hold anything for anyone and we will not sell anything before Record Store Day, but we are happy to tell you how many we got and, if we know, we might give you an idea of how many people are interested in that item. RSD exclusives are limited to one of each title per customer.

These prizes will be given out throughout the whole day, inside the store and outside. If you’re in the store, shopping, we might just yell out a trivia question for some free concert tickets or a rare test pressing. If you’re outside, the DJ or one of the volunteers might just say “Who wants this?!” and if they’re holding up something you want, you just might go home with it. We will be holding raffles for some amazing prizes in between bands, with some big raffles happening after 2pm.
Goodie Bags!
Not even joking, we have people stand in line just to get one of our limited Stinkweeds Swag Bags! This is because we load these things up with free posters, vinyl, cds, concert tickets, gift cards, stickers, magnets, t-shirts, buttons, you name it! We’ll also have some great gift cards, coupons and promotional material from some of our neighbors, including Halo Piercing, All About Books and Comics, Cowtown Skateboards, Urban Cookies, Golden Rule Tattoo, Psycho Steve Presents, Stateside Presents, Changing Hands, Book Bar, Rebel Lounge, Valley Bar, Crescent Ballroom and many more. These are limited to the first 100 or so customers, so the early birds get this worm.
Stinkweeds RSD Merchandise
For this year’s RSD shirt we wanted to go with something kind of surfy, summery and fun and we couldn’t be happier with the results! These are going to be a limited run and only available for a short time. $12
Canvas totes are great for grocery shopping, carrying books and personal items. But, did you know that they are also the perfect size for carrying records?! You can fit about 10 records in these things, keeping them safe for the ride home! $5
We’ll also have our very popular stickers and magnets on hand for anyone who wants one!
Live Music!
DJ Bruce (Crescent Ballroom) will be spinning tunes throughout the day and then we’ll have live music from 11 to 4!
Here’s the lineup of live bands:
11am – Fat Gray Cat
12pm – Twin Ponies
1pm – Snake! Snake! Snakes!
2pm – Slow Moses DJ Set
3pm – Sonoran Chorus
New Layout!
If you haven’t been in the store in a while, you haven’t seen all the awesome new changes we’ve made. Aside from finding some room to add a few more bins for our ever growing vinyl selection, we’ve made it a little more open and roomy. The real treat is that with this new floor plan comes a new and improved RSD layout. We’re finally able to get all of the product off the floor and on to some tables, to make it easier to browse and find all the stuff on your list! We gave it a test run on Black Friday RSD and it was a success!
Food & Drinks!
What would Record Store Day at Stinkweeds be without Short Leash Hot Dogs! Short Leash has seen a lot of success and notoriety over the past few years, all due to their delicious and unique hot dogs that are matched by no one! Even with all this fame and success, they’re still willing to park their truck in our lot and serve up some delicious food to all the hungry record shoppers.
They will be in our parking lot from 11am through lunch time!
The People!
Yeah, working at a record store is pretty cool and all, but the best part is getting to know all of you. We mean this from the bottom of our hearts. You are the best customers we could ask for. We learn more about music and culture from you than we ever could learn from any website or magazine. Behind the curtain, Record Store Day is quite a task to pull off. Between the few of us working here, we’re all putting in extra hours and lifting tons of heavy boxes and making all of the arrangements to pull it off without a hitch. At the end of the day, we make a few extra bucks. Maybe enough to pay for the party we’re throwing, but the real payoff is you. Your support means the world to us because you’re all so awesome! It’s really great to feel like we’re part of something as positive as it is intriguing. Keep kicking ass and we’ll be here to provide the soundtrack!
Happy Record Store Day!
